About children's classes

Tribeca Language offers classes for children & adults ages 2 and up in Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Greek and more. Just ask and we'll add it!

Our Objective:

Classes at Tribeca Language are designed to lead students towards functional fluency. Functional fluency is best described as having a confident use of the 275 most commonly used vocabulary words. These 275 words are the foundation of conversation. Using Maurice Hazan's revolutionary QTalk Method, we are able to introduce vocabulary in a way that simulates the natural acquisition of language. Students will learn grammar and the vocabulary to become functionally fluent without feeling like they're going to school! Very little homework is needed as the method itself enhances the encoding and recall of the information.

For children up to the age of 5, we work with a 100 word section of this core vocabulary rotated throughout the first one to two years of instruction (based on an average of one 40-minute class per week). From age 6 on, we begin introducing and rotating the additional 175 words. For newer students we use the QTalk Junior Book Series. When students are ready, we move onto the QTalk Book 1 Series. This unique method of vocabulary rotation allows for rolling enrollment and for a seamless coexistence of multiple levels within the same class; thus, we are able to accommodate a wide range of ages in our classes.

About Reinforcement:

Tribeca Language proudly offers QTalk Online Games in order to provide students with access to at-home reinforcement of the curriculum through a series of games, escalating in difficulty and corresponding to what is being covered in class. Students progress in direct correlation to the amount of reinforcement they have between classes. Parents are strongly encouraged to play the online games with students for best results. This both de-fossilizes the language from our classrooms and shows students that parents truly value the process of this learning.

About Make Up Classes:

Students may attend up to 3 floating makeup classes per session. This means any class on the schedule that makes sense. We ask that you schedule these classes with us before attending. We prefer if you let us know before class if your child will not be attending.

If no other suitable classes are on the schedule, we will extend one courtesy make-up class into the following session.

For customized private or semi-private classes, you may cancel and reschedule your class with 24 hours notice. If you cannot provide 24 hours notice, a $40 cancellation fee will be charged. The balance of the class can be applied to future class purchases.

Curriculum by Age:

Babies: 12-22 month olds

These Immersion classes feature playtime with our full line of cognitive development tools, designed to enhance motor skills while exposing children to beginning comprehension of a second language. Exposure to fluent communication. Attendance with care-giver.

Toddlers: 2-3 year olds

At this age children are still developing phonetic synapses in their own language. They will expand their enunciation range by identifying a series of images and objects through music, movement and hands on activities. 2's transition from the narrated cognitive development play into basic sentence structuring with both tactile and visual tools moving closer to book and flash card based classes. Introduction to art project reinforcement of vocabulary begins. English is used in classes only for introduction of new concepts. We ask that care-givers not be in the room but stay nearby.

Online Games provide parents the opportunity to see and help reinforce what is being learned in the classroom.

Pre-school: 3-4 year olds

By 3, we are able to help children structure basic sentences using animals, colors, verbs and objects through hands on activities such as puzzles and art projects, as well as through the use of our proprietary flash cards and book series. We begin assigning practice pages and online games that directly reinforce curriculum.  English is used in classes only for introduction of new concepts. These classes are drop off.
